Meet Mortalise – The Unexpected Ally Who Helped Spark The Crimson Legacy
A Young Mortalise
Before Mortalise Blackwood became a pivotal character in The Crimson Legacy series, there was Mortalise DeathDream — the real player behind the name. And our first meeting? Unforgettable.
My husband and I had just started playing Atlas, still reeling after losing our base. All we had left was a ship, a few coins, and a heavy dose of uncertainty. We stumbled upon an island owned by a group called The Death Dream — and that’s when everything changed.
Two towering players appeared on enormous, bird-like creatures — fast, fierce, and totally intimidating to us as new players.
"You can't build here. This is an owned island," one of them said through voice chat. The same message flashed on our screen.
My heart was racing. I whispered to my husband, “Let’s just go.”
He couldn’t type in-game, so I replied for both of us:
“Oh okay, I’m sorry. We didn’t know. We just lost everything and have nothing but this ship and some gold.”
(Yes, I mentioned the gold. Honest to a fault.)
They asked, “How many are you?”
“Just my husband and I.”
To our surprise, they replied:
“Well, we’ll let you stay for now to gather some things. We’ll be back.”
Minutes later, they returned.
“It’s just the two of you?”
“Yes, we just started yesterday.”
Then came the moment that would change everything:
“You could join us if you want.”
We were stunned — and incredibly grateful.
That day, they gave us food, armor, and guidance. And Mortalise was the one who stood in front of us to formally invite us into their tribe. From complete strangers to tribe members — it felt surreal.
A Player Who Became a Pillar
Mortalise wasn’t just a name on the screen. He was a leader. He taught us the ropes, gave us a space to build, and welcomed us to The Death Dream — a powerful, established group with a fortress that felt like a fantasy.
He invited us into their Discord, guided us with patience, and gave us a sense of belonging when we needed it most. That’s when we received our nickname:
"Le Petit Couple."
The little couple. Said with kindness — and it stuck.
From that moment on, we weren’t just players. We were part of something bigger.
From Game to Page: The Legacy of Mortalise
In The Crimson Legacy, Mortalise Blackwood is more than a hero. He’s a savior, a mentor, and a steadfast ally to Ambrose Fider. And now you know why. The real Mortalise didn’t just help us survive a game — he inspired a character defined by strength, wisdom, and quiet leadership.
As part of my blog series, I asked the real-life inspirations behind my characters to share their stories. Here’s what Mortalise had to say:
🎮 Mortalise on Atlas, Adventure, and Brotherhood
Q: How did your journey with Atlas begin?
“The game was on discount and we were in the mood for some adventure.”
Q: What’s your favorite part of Atlas?
“The PvP on boats — to hunt and battle other players.”
Q: Any in-game moment you’ll never forget?
“We were six in the tribe. We met some new players who had just bought the game. They were French like us, so we brought them on the boat and went for the Power Stone. After a long, crazy night — with laughter and some tears — we added them to the tribe. Now they’re family.”
This word stood out: family. That’s what Mortalise built in-game. And what so many players cherish — bonds that go beyond gameplay.
Q: What was your role in your tribe?
“I’m the leader and negotiator — like a governor. And when needed, a conqueror.”
A perfect echo of his role in The Crimson Legacy — commanding, guiding, and protecting.
Beyond the Game
Q: Did relationships in Atlas impact your life outside the game?
“Yes. I’m more peaceful now when meeting new people. I try to give them the same chance others gave me when I started.”
Q: How would you describe the Atlas community?
“Very friendly. Lots of PvP players, but we also had peaceful PvE players, and we protected them from others.”
Q: What does it feel like to inspire a fantasy novel character?
“Honestly, I’m very proud. That’s something. It makes me smile.”
Me too, Mortalise.
Q: If your in-game persona were written into a fantasy novel (spoiler alert — he is!), what kind of character would they be?
“A leader who keeps his people on adventures and hunts for treasure — guiding them to new lands.”
Yes. Yes, you are.
The Game’s Twilight and Dreams for the Future
Mortalise no longer plays Atlas — like many, he stepped away as the game struggled with population and support.
Q: Why did you stop playing?
“There are fewer people now. Some servers are open, but it’s not the same.”
Q: What are your thoughts on Atlas overall?
“Very great. But the devs didn’t give the game the love it needed.”
So true. Atlas had the potential to be something legendary. And for a while, it truly was — thanks to players like Mortalise.
Q: Would you want another game like Atlas?
“Yes — with the same sea PvP mechanics, more PvP options on land, and way more people!”
Final Words from Mortalise
"Life is an adventure. Dream — and make that dream come true."
The Crimson Legacy was once just a dream. Now it’s a growing series — one that lives on thanks to the people who inspired it.
