Finding Hope After Pain, Recovery, and Uncertainty
There are moments in life where time seems to slip quietly through your fingers.
For me, this past year feels like one of those moments—lost to pain, discomfort, and a life that no longer moved the way it once did.
I shared previously that I would be stepping back, uncertain of when I would return. At the time, I didn’t have answers.
But now, for the first time in a long time…
I have a beginning.
The Start of My Recovery Journey
After months of waiting, I have now seen a surgeon and begun working with a physiotherapist.
Things are finally starting to move in the right direction.
Slowly. Carefully. But forward.
And after everything this past year has been… that forward movement means everything.
Living With Pain: Losing a Year of Life
This past year hasn’t just been about physical pain—it has been about loss.
-
Loss of routine
-
Loss of independence
-
Loss of the ability to write and create
There were days where even the simplest tasks felt overwhelming.
Writing—something that has always been a part of me—became something I couldn’t physically do.
And that was one of the hardest parts.
How This Changed Me as a Personal Support Worker
As a Personal Support Worker (PSW), I have always led with empathy.
But this experience changed something deeper.
Because now… I have lived it.
While no two experiences are ever identical, I now understand:
-
The frustration of limitations
-
The emotional toll of chronic pain
-
The quiet battles people face every day
This journey has humbled me more than I can truly express—and it has changed how I care for others.
Facing the Unknown Future
I still don’t know what the future holds.
I don’t know if—or when—I will return to my regular work.
I don’t know how long recovery will take.
And yes… that uncertainty is scary.
But for the first time in a long time, there is something stronger than fear:
Hope.
Choosing to Move Forward
This is not the end of my story.
It’s the beginning of a new chapter.
One I didn’t plan—but one I am choosing to face with:
-
Courage
-
Grace
-
Determination
Like the stories I write, this journey will have challenges.
And like Ambrose Fider…
I will meet them head-on.
If You’re Struggling Right Now
If you are in a place of uncertainty…
If you feel like your life has been put on hold…
Please remember this:
Even in the waiting…
Even in the pain…
You are still moving forward.
Thank you for being here.
Thank you for your patience.
And thank you for walking this journey with me.
